Electra Complex VS Oedipus Complex
Electra complex is a psychoanalytic term used to describe a girl’s romantic feelings toward her father and anger towards his mother. Electra complex as well as the oedipal Complex in men.
According to Sigmund Freud, psychosexual development of a girl at first attached to his mother. When he discovered that he did not have a penis, he became attached to her father and began to hate her mother, who thought her mother had done “castration itself”. Freud believed that a girl then began to identify and imitate her mother for fear of losing his father’s love.
The term Electra complex is often associated with Freud, but actually Carl Jung has coined this term in 1913. Freud himself rejected the term, because it illustrates the simplification effort to understand the analogy between the attitude of the two sexes. Freud himself used the term Oedipus as a feminine attitude to describe what we now refer to as the Electra complex.
Oedipal Complex is a term used by Freud in his theory of psychosexual development stages to describe the feelings of a boy who loves to his mother, accompanied by feelings of jealousy and anger toward his father. According to Freud, the boy wants to have his mother and his father, which he viewed as a competitor to obtain his mother’s love. Oedipal Complex inspired by characters in Sophocles (ancient Greek story) where the ‘Oedipus Rex who accidentally kills his father and marry his mother’.
